Badminton. Mulhousien Arnaud Merklé crowned French champion for the first time

After his defeat in the final last year at home in Mulhouse, Arnaud Merklé (Red Star Mulhouse) won his first French senior title this Saturday at the Palais des Sports Ghani Yalouz in Besançon (Doubs).

Favorite of the final, he held his place against Valentin Singer (21-12, 21-18). On arrival, the Mulhousien did not lose any set in this tournament which he dominated from start to finish. After 10 national titles for young people, he won his first title for seniors. “This title is very important to me. It launches my career ”, he declared on the site of the French badminton federation at the end of the meeting.

A strong Alsatian-sounding podium since Strasbourg’s Alex Lanier (ASPTT Strasbourg) took 3rd place.

Arnaud Merklé could even have achieved a double. Qualified for the doubles final with Gaetan Mittelheisser from Volant 3 Frontières, the two men lost in two sets (21-15, 21/12) against the favorite pair Ronan Labar / Lucas Corvée (Aix Université Club / Issy-les -Moulineaux Badminton Club).
