In interview with GQ, Donovan Mitchell named his Mets cap among his 10 daily essentials. The 2-time All-Star Jazz full-back grew up in New York, and at the time he dreamed more of a career as a ‘baseball player’ than a basketball player.
“Donovan Mitchell: – Kid I played baseball a lot so I always had a cap, whether on or off the field. Guys like Jose Reyes, David Wright… my favorite player was Mike Piazza, so I represent the Mets. I wanted to be a baseball player more than a basketball player when I was a kid so it was kind of like the secondary decision, and it turned out pretty well (smile).
GQ: – You think you are a better baseball player than Michael Jordan ?
Donovan Mitchell: – It’s hot to answer that, would I be better than MJ? People always want to chamber MJ on his baseball skills but they don’t realize, I think his batting average was 220, which is very solid in baseball. And he did that after 3 NBA titles. I need at least one before I even think about doing this. “
