Sunday’s defeat against Lugo confirms that the Blues have problems handling the games against opponents from ‘their league’

The image offered by Amorebieta this Sunday in Lezama was very different from the combative team and that does not lose faith in itself that the public is used to seeing. With greater or lesser fortune, in previous days the Blues were alive in the games, they left a good taste in the mouth even though the results were not always accompanied. The feeling after what was seen against Lugo is that instead of taking the step forward that is demanded so many times, he has taken a step back.

The Galician team pulled on its own and right to deliver a tremendous blow to the morale of Amorebieta, who longed for a victory to get their head out of the relegation zone. They practically did not go well at all. In fact, according to the coach himself in the press room, the game plan that they had worked on during the week was not put into practice. “I cannot defend my approach when I believe that what had to be done has not been done,” he asserted expeditiously and visibly angry. For the Vitorian it was a clear problem of lack of attitude on the pitch. And that, before an experienced team that also played life like Lugo, had a very high bill.

The feeling of regret seized the zornotzarra fans after the crash, seeing how not only a golden opportunity to progress in the classification escaped, but also the poor performance of theirs, unable throughout the second half to generate danger on the Galician goal beyond a goal well disallowed by Unzueta for offside and a couple of isolated sets from set pieces. They fell completely into the networks of the albivermello, who had no shame in stopping, hindering and dirtying the game at the slightest opportunity. It suited them well and it turned out even better thanks to the condescension of the referee

Little baggage

This defeat against Lugo, the third suffered by Amorebieta already in Lezama, also confirms that Urritxe’s men get stuck every time they have a team from ‘their league’ in front of them. It is useless to win against Almería and Valladolid, or to score against Sporting and Eibar, if then the direct confrontations against rivals in the lower zone are not carried out. Of the sixteen days played, eight have been against opponents that could be included in that list. And the baggage is only four points out of 24 possible.

It was tied against Ibiza (1-1) and Burgos (2-2), recently promoted as the Blues, although with a different route this year. In Fuenlabrada (0-0) and Alcorcón (2-2) a point was also scratched although with a different flavor, especially bittersweet in the clash against the potters. The other four meetings are counted by losses. Amorebieta knelt against Leganés, Cartagena and Real B, as well as against Lugo.

Lack of attitude

As they say, all points count, but those that are added in these direct confrontations are even more valuable because the rival does not add them. And on that scale, the result is clearly negative for Amorebieta that, curiously, has had higher returns against teams that occupy higher areas in the table. Something about which Vélez de Mendizabal also spoke loud and clear on Sunday. “I think we were wrong because we have very good attitudes against teams called to be higher,” snapped the coach of the zornotzarras, also assuming his part of the blame: “I will be the one who does not send the message well, but when there are games that really you have to kill in every action, in every minute … that’s the feeling I have left, that we don’t do it ».

The first round of the competition has only five games left to close, and the calendar ahead of Amorebieta is full of rivals with a lot of names and enormous footballing weight. Oviedo, Zaragoza, Malaga, Las Palmas and Ponferradina, in that order, await the blues. The challenge facing those of Urritxe is tremendous.
