Fernando Alonso is the driver who generates the least accident reports in Formula 1. The figure for spending on workshop repairs (170,000 euros) is cheap for a sport that this year has put a stop to compulsive outlays and has limited the budget of the teams to 145 million euros, leaving out a large number of games, including the salaries of the drivers and the main engineers of the teams. Alonso is the most careful with his car (the Alpine is also the cheapest car in the garage, since Esteban Ocon is the second driver who has caused the least expense) and, on the other hand, the World Championship leader, Max Verstappen, is the most aggressive. Its multiple collisions have caused a waste of four million euros.

A study published on the social network Reddit, based on the internet value of each car part, has captivated the people of F1. The estimate concludes that the title fight is giving Red Bull an extra outlay. 4,039,000 euros from Verstappen and much less, 725,000 from Sergio Pérez, that this weekend is the protagonist in the Grand Prix of Mexico.

Verstappen, who has an impetuous character and superb hands, has had three powerful accidents this season, in Azerbaijan, Silverstone and Monza. In Baku a wheel exploded on the finish line and hit the wall: 610,000 euros. At Monza it passed over Hamilton’s Mercedes: 368,000. And in England, violent shock against protections: 1.9 million.

A ruin for his team is turning out to be Mick Schumacher, the son of the now-bedridden champion. The rookie competes for the slowest team and with fewer grill resources, Haas, and has already generated a bill of three million. Only in Monaco the American team had to face a repair of 1.1 million. His partner Nikita Mazepin has a worse reputation than the German, but the numbers confirm the message of the saying, some have the fame and others carve the wool. The Russian, who is the protagonist of many jokes for his spins and mistakes, has caused losses of 770,000 euros.

Lewis Hamilton, 36, has been more cautious so far than Verstappen, 24. Patience and years translate into the bottom line, one million euros in claims, a quarter of his opponent’s spending for the title.

Carlos Sainz has derived a 1.7 million bill from Ferrari, somewhat less than his partner Charles Leclerc, 2.2. Much less than anyone Alpine spends on shop renovations, 467.000 euros. Ocon and Alonso are the most diligent with their cars.
