Alejandro and Hugo Gállego, champions of Spain

Huesca’s Alejandro and Hugo Gállego have won two titles of champions of Spain, on a day of glory for Badminton Huesca. Raúl Bergua has been runner-up twice, in singles and doubles with Gonzalo Isábal.

Alejandro Gállego has been crowned champion of Spain under-15 in the Huesca final that he played in Ponteareas against his teammate Raúl Bergua and won 21-16, 16-21, 21-8.

And his brother Hugo Gállego has achieved the national U-11 men’s doubles title together with the Andalusian Guillermo Muñoz. They won the final in Oviedo against the Catalans Nil Leiva and Magno Salas by 15-11, 15-8.

Alejandro Gállego gets his second national individual title, after the one achieved in the sub-13 just a year ago. Bergua was also opting for a second crown, but has had to settle for the runner-up.

The almost daily scene of seeing each of the two on one side of the net was repeated, but this time it was in Pontevedra lands and with the title of champion of Spain at stake.

It has been a duel of exchanges of streaks and that in the end a more effective Galician was taken in the final third set. With more rhythm, he has put pressure on Bergua, who has had a harder time playing in that section from the bottom. Thus he has been able to finish points above the net and force errors from his rival. It has happened soon like this from a 3-1 for Bergua to a 5-17 after a strong partial that left the crash almost sentenced. Bergua has no longer been able to lift it (21-8).

Gállego had taken the first set, with alternatives, as Bergua always played very deep, avoiding the clear attack options of his rival and forcing mistakes that allowed him to take a 9-5 advantage. But there were more and more exchanges in the net and Gállego has managed to take the initiative and attack to conclude the points in advance to play over the net until 21-16.

In the second set, Bergua came out more aggressive and, although Gállego responded to him from the start, it helped him to gain advantages (9-14). Gállego has recovered to 16-16, but Bergua finished the set (16-21) that led to the tiebreaker with the aforementioned result.

Sensational success for both players and for the Huesca club, which confirms its national dominance at this age with four front-line players, the two finalists, but also Gonzalo Isabal and Alejandro Yagües.

Bergua and Isábal, doubles runners-up

In the men’s doubles final, the Huesca Raúl Bergua and Gonzalo Isábal lost against the couple formed by the Balearic Ismael Oballe and Yaidel Gil (21-19, 21-17).

They have been two very close sets, in which the Huesca have had options to win until practically the end. The difference in finishing power between the two couples has been noted.

The Huesca, with less height than their rivals and less forceful finishing, have to work each point and it is difficult for them to finish them. They surpass it with their high quality and their good reading of the points, but Oballe and Gil, two of the best national players, have been able to hold the pulse of the Huesca and have had more forceful attacking.

The Huesca players have starred in spectacular defenses, but they have also suffered from their rivals. And these have been able in important moments to press from the rest on the serves of the Huesca.

We must highlight the enormous merit of Bergua and Isábal, who have one more year of sub-15 ahead.

To reach the final they had previously overcome three rounds with ease, imposing their game on the rival pairs.

AND There was about to be a final from Huesca also in doubles, because Alejandro Gállego and Alejandro Yagües had the step very close, although they ended up losing in the semifinals with Gil and Oballe by 20-22, 21-19, 21-17, which gives an idea of equality and the emotion of the meeting.

Also noteworthy is the excellent performance of Gonzalo Isábal and Alejandro Yagües in the singles. They fell in the quarterfinals, after overcoming two rounds and against big favorites.

Yagües ran into his teammate Alejandro Gállego, with whom he gave up for a double 21-15. But he had previously surpassed the Spaniard Álex Tur and Félix Pomares and Alejandro Sanz from Madrid in tough and worthwhile encounters.

Isábal took the first set from Yaidel Gil (20-22) in the quarterfinals, but later gave up 21-13, 21-12. Before he had eliminated the Balearic Alejandro Valdés and the Balearic Alejandro Yaycarov.

Hugo Gállego, U11 champion in doubles

In sub-11 Hugo Gállego has achieved the national doubles title in Oviedo, playing with the Andalusian Guillermo Muñoz and with an excellent championship. They have clearly surpassed their league and already in the final draw they have not given up a single set. They eliminated the Galicians Iago and Xoel Álvarez, the Galician and first favorites Xoan Balboa and Brais Cambra and in the final they beat the Catalans Leiva and Salas.

In singles Hugo Gálego beat Nil Leiva in the first round and fell in the second with the Balearic Ianis Aaron Elbase, who was runner-up at the end, by a very tight 12-15, 15-13, 15-12.

In the National sub-19, which was also played in Oviedo, Huesca’s Hugo Escuer and Pablo Rodríguez lost in the first round in both singles and doubles.
