A NEW STORY! The Guardians arrived in Cleveland

Cleveland /

A new era has begun in Cleveland. Employees at Progressive Field spent Thursday preparing the Cleveland team’s first step towards the club becoming the Guardians, or “Guardians”. Souvenirs and other old items were removed and replaced with the new Guardians logos and badges in the stadium stores.

A franchise that experienced controversy around the name “Indians” and their mascot “Chief Wahoo” is now starting anew. The transition was triggered by the club’s desire to represent the community in the best possible way and to be inclusive.. That resulted in a survey of 40,000 fans and 140 hours of interviews with fans, community leaders, and management personnel. After all that, the organization settled on the name “Guardians”.

“That’s a key component, the resilience of the people here in Cleveland and in Northwest Ohio. And loyalty, ”Guardians president of business operations Brian Barren said in July. “Loyalty to Cleveland, to each other as teammates and to family and friends”.

There will be renovations at Progressive Field And, after the team’s first negative season in Terry Francona’s nine years as manager, management has indicated that their winter plan includes spending more money than in recent offseason periods. With information from MLB.com
