WTA – Indian Wells> Jabeur: “Some sponsors didn’t want to sign me because of my origins”

Ons Jabeur did it! Qualified for the last four in California after a great victory against Anett Kontaveit last night (7–5, 6–3), the Tunisian is sure to join the world top 10 on Monday and is getting closer than ever to a historic qualification for the Masters in November.

Asked about the difficulty of coming from a country like Tunisia, Ons made some unfortunate revelations at a post-match press conference.

“It’s very different coming from a country like mine than coming from the United States, France or Australia. Not only because you see the example of the other players in front of you, but also because you have more clubs, even more tournaments to play. Sponsors didn’t want to sign me because of my origins, which is unfair. I accepted it, but I did not understand it. I am very proud of the person I have become, without depending on others. Everyone has a difficult career, I’m not saying mine is more complicated, but I had to make my dream come true without any outside help. It gave me the courage to keep going and achieve my goals; today, I am one of the ten best players in the world. “
