Football international Wout Weghorst, who previously made some ‘special’ statements about corona on TV, has now tested positive for the corona virus himself. He later retracted his words with an apology.
The striker of VfL Wolfsburg and the Dutch National Team has immediately been quarantined. He is not available for the time being for the German club of trainer Mark van Bommel. Wolfsburg will face RB Salzburg in the Champions League on Wednesday.
Weghorst on the field on Saturday, sick on Sunday
Weghorst complained of symptoms yesterday morning. A subsequent test gave a positive result. Weghorst was immediately isolated and quarantined at home. All other tests conducted on the players, coaches and other staff on Sunday and Monday were negative,” Wolfsburg said in a statement. The striker started on Saturday against Union Berlin on the bench, but came on in the 68th minute. His club wishes him a speedy recovery on social media.

Confused statements about corona
Weghorst was discredited at the end of last year after statements about the corona virus. “Imagine there is a vaccine that is so safe that you have to be threatened to take it. Against a disease so deadly you have to be tested to know you have it,” Weghorst said cryptically. He also said: “I just wanted to show that you should inform yourself as much as possible about this subject. Also on all other topics in general, and listen to as many different opinions as possible.” He brought his somewhat muddled speech on German TV (ZDF). He was invited when he reported not being vaccinated against corona. Weghorst was not alone, by the way.
He later apologized for his TV appearance and words. “I have many people in my circle of friends who are infected with the coronavirus. As a result, I know exactly what effects this virus has and how dangerous it can be,” said Weghorst after the commotion.
While the footballer is recovering from the virus, there is still a lot to do on social media:

What a strange tweet. Wout Weghorst has never denied that he can get covid, right? He chose not to vaccinate because he considered the risk of becoming seriously ill. And I don’t believe he is seriously ill now… https://t.co/ol5Z3lGIPy
