England hands flat defeat

In group I, England did what it had to do against football dwarf Andorra. The Three Lions won with a B-team quite easily. Final score: 0-5. Defender Ben Chilwell gave Gareth Southgate’s side the lead after 15 minutes with his first goal for the national team. There was an offside smell to the goal, but the VAR ruled that assister Jadon Sancho onside was standing.

Winning Poland says goodbye to goalkeeper

Still in group I, San Marino, that other football dwarf, also suffered a logical defeat. It was 5-0 against Poland. And that didn’t even require a goal from Robert Lewandowski. There was a special moment in the second half. In minute 57, Lukasz Fabianski was substituted in his 57th international match. Poland’s goalkeeper left the field in tears.

England remain comfortably in the lead in Group I. The Three Lions count 19 points after seven games. Albania, which went on to win 0-1 against Hungary, follows in second on four points. Poland is third and five points behind.

Denmark takes a big hit

Scotland win thanks to goal in injury time

Denmark still has a perfect report in group F. The Danes have won all their seven games, scored no fewer than 26 times and have not conceded a single goal. Scotland, the number two, already follows at a considerable distance with a deficit of seven points. Austria, which defeated the Faroe Islands 0-2, share third place with Israel.

Yaremchuk good for goal and assist for Ukraine

With a view to the second place, Ukraine has done a good job in group D. After five (!) draws, it could finally win. In and against Finland it became 1-2. Roman Yaremchuk (ex-AA Gent) had a foot in both goals. With the opening goal, the striker gave the assist for Andriy Yarmolenko’s only beautiful 0-1, later in the first half Yaremchuk scored the 1-2. In between, Norwich striker Teemu Pukki had signed for the equalizer. Eduard Sobol played the first half for Finland.

Prevljak score double for Bosnia

Still in group D, Bosnia-Herzegovina went to visit Kazakhstan. The visitors won 0-2 thanks to two goals from Eupen striker Smail Prevljak. Prevljak made the 0-1 in the 25th minute and doubled the score after the break. Kazakhstan came close to 1-2 in added time, but the goal was disallowed due to a foul.

Group F is still led by France, so that this international period did not finish World Cup qualifiers. Les Bleus lead the group with 12 points. That is four more than Ukraine’s first pursuer and six more than Bosnia-Herzegovina, which has played one game less. Finland, which has five points (and one match less), is also not yet out for second place.
