This week, World Cup badminton for teams, the Thomas & Uber Cup, was held for the first time in Europe, when Aarhus laid courses in Ceres Park and Arena. The World Cup for men’s and women’s national teams is the best in badminton, and there was a star meeting for the big gold medal.

It was completely redemptive that the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals were finally held this week in Aarhus after as many as three postponements due to Covid-19. Equally redemptive was the fact that the settlement ran on rails and that everyone from players over officials, spectators, volunteers and partners had only praise for the organizers.

– It has been fantastic to experience TotalEnergies BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Finals in Aarhus. The event holds so much prestige and joy. Aarhus has set a framework for the world’s best team to create captivating drama through the nine-day competition, says Thomas Lund, Secretary General of the Badminton World Federation and talks about one of the many great experiences in Aarhus:

– There have been so many, many great moments during the Thomas and Uber Cup finals, but one of the highlights for me was the many spectators who came again day after day in the Ceres Arena. The spectators created a completely unique atmosphere in the arena and especially when the Danish players came on the field. It came from the heart and something we have not experienced in a long, long time.

The Danish organizers also reflect on both the spectator support, the sporting goals and the settlement itself.

– It was a pity that we did not play in the Thomas Cup final. But even though we are annoyed right now, both the women’s and men’s teams have delivered great performances and achieved the sporting goals. That said, we created a beautiful backdrop with many spectators and intense atmosphere. In terms of events, we went in the 3rd set with the postponements from last year.

– Therefore, it is gratifying that we in collaboration with Aarhus Municipality and Sport Event Denmark could finally hold the Thomas and Uber Cup final. My permanent staff and the many volunteers have made a huge effort and been an invaluable foundation for creating this historic event, says Bo Jensen, director of Badminton Denmark.

Like the director of the association, the director of Sport Event Denmark is also extremely satisfied with the recently concluded World Cup for teams:

– The settlement of the Thomas and Uber Cup was a great redemption. After the many postponements, it was fantastic to experience world-class badminton at home in Aarhus. The atmosphere has been top notch, and big, big praise to both Badminton Denmark and Aarhus for their persistence and a nice set-up. When Denmark hosted the individual World Cup in 2014, the bar was set high, and this week it was raised further. It bodes well for 2023, when Denmark is again home to an individual World Cup, says Lars Lundov, director of Sport Event Denmark.

Aarhus has hosted many large, international sports events and is also very satisfied with the Thomas and Uber Cup.

– Both in terms of sports and settlement, it was a great success. Many should be very grateful for their participation in the settlement. In particular, a big thank you to the many dedicated volunteers. Aarhus is happy and proud to have been chosen as the host city. We look forward to being allowed to lay the floor for international badminton championships in the future as well, says Rabih Azad-Ahmad, Councilor for Culture and Citizen Services.
