At the Levante EMV / Prensa Ibérica 2021 Awards ceremony scheduled for October 25 at the Valencia Conference Center, six people and entities will also receive thematic awards. One of them, in the Sports area, will be the women’s section of Valencia Basket, the main protagonist of the rebirth of women’s basketball in the city. «We are very grateful to Levante EMV for this recognition. As you know, thanks to the commitment of our patron -Juan Roig-, in 2014 we decided to take the first steps to be a global basketball club, without gender. The achievement of the Eurocup Women last season was the perfect icing on the road traveled, full of effort, hard work and spectacular sports growth, “said Paco Raga, CEO and honorary president of the Taronja entity.

After lifting the Eurocup trophy last April, the first in its history after reaching the elite in 2018, Valencia Basket confirmed its competitive strength in mid-September by releasing its national record with the LF Endesa Super Cup. There were two titles as well as four could well have been, since the Taronja team stayed on the shore last year both in the final of the Queen of Valencia Cup and in the Endesa Women’s League. «This season the project is exciting again, we have shown it with the Super Cup and we have many goals left. I am sure that our girls will surpass themselves again, and this award will be one more motivation. Women’s basketball reawakens passion in our city, not only in our club, and with the people back in the pavilions I think we have to enjoy it more than ever ”, Raga insisted.

And we must not forget either that on October 22, as host in La Fonteta, the team will have a new revalidation in the European Super Cup against the powerful Yekaterinburg of Miguel Méndez. However, the successes of the taronja ensemble cannot be measured solely from the showcases, where, on the other hand, there is space for many more wound ones. «As a member of the club and as a Valencian, it is a satisfaction that an entity like Levante EMV has recognized the work of our women’s team, both in recent months where the successes have been more visible in terms of results and because of the route, the trajectory and the promotion that the club is doing of this sport among the boys and girls of the Valencian Community ”, assured the coach Rubén Burgos.

Four of its players have represented the Spanish team in the Eurobasket played in Valencia and in the Tokyo Olympic Games -Cristina Ouviña, Raquel Carrera, Laura Gil and Queralt Casas-, while the first team is beginning to be the destination of youth squads. like Lorena Segura, and a close goal for others like Claudia Contell or Paula García, all of them trained in L’Alqueria del Basket. «It is a pride to be able to be part of this team and this entity. We are very grateful to Levante EMV for remembering the effort and day-to-day life of our players, ”concluded the Ribarroja coach. With a project based largely on the work and talent of l’Alqueria, the rebirth of Valencian women’s basketball is a fact after the glorious era of a Ros Casares to which, in a certain way, it is the direct heir.
