Jakarta

Jonathan Christie emerged as the winner of Indonesia’s Thomas Cup. But Jojo had to struggle against Li Shi Feng, to the point that he had to challenge himself!

Indonesia won the Thomas Cup after defeating China in the final at Ceres Arena, Aarhus, Denmark on Sunday (17/10) night WIB. Red and white sweeps away a 3-0 victory.

Anthony Ginting, Fajar/Rian, and Jonatan Christie were able to get points. However, the last name, Jojo (as he is called) had to play three sets and faced heavy resistance.

In the first set, Jonathan Christie appeared convincing even to lead 6-0. Jojo also closed the first set with a score of 21-14, although Li Shi Feng did not give up and his jump smash often made it difficult for Jojo.

In the second set, the situation was 180 degrees. This time, it was Jojo who was overwhelmed and often failed to anticipate Li’s attacks.

Jojo even had left behind 3-11. Although Jojo tried to get out of the pressure, Li was able to win the match 21-18.

In the third set, Jonathan Christie tried to gain momentum. According to BWF, Jojo even challenged himself before the third set started.

“In the third game, I said to myself ‘let’s play another 100 minutes’,” said Jojo.

No doubt, Jojo played 100 minutes against Anders Antonsen in the semifinals (Indonesia vs Denmark). An exciting duel ensued, both players continued to stick to each other’s points and the total game time equaled 100 minutes!

“I motivate myself, the previous game gave me confidence. I was ready for 120 minutes,” he said.

Finally Jojo closed the third set with a 21-14 victory. After that, the Thomas Cup returned to Indonesia after 19 years of waiting!
