Two suspects of aggression on Belgian Manchester City …

The two suspects arrested by the investigating judge of the aggression against a 63-year-old fan of Manchester City in the parking lot along the E40 in Drongen, remain in prison. This was decided by the council chamber in Ghent on Monday.

The facts happened on Tuesday evening 19 October in the parking lot along the E40 in the Ghent borough of Drongen. Guido De Pauw, a 63-year-old man from Ninove, was wearing a Manchester City scarf and had stopped his car in the motorway parking lot after the football match against Club Brugge.

According to the initial findings of the investigation, a suspect took his football scarf in the gas shop and took it outside with it. Subsequently, the victim came into confrontation with some suspects in the parking lot, and ended up on the ground after being physically assaulted. The victim is out of danger, but he suffered brain damage.

During the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, the police arrested five people and they appeared before the investigating judge in Ghent on Thursday. Three suspects were charged with negligence but released on conditions, including a ban from attending football matches. The man who committed the aggression, a 23-year-old man from Wetteren, and the man who took the scarf, a 25-year-old man from Aarschot, were arrested by the investigating judge.

The council chamber decided Monday that the two men must remain in jail. It is not yet clear whether the man who committed the assault will appeal. According to his lawyer Jan De Winter, the 23-year-old man is sorry and cannot explain why he committed the facts.

sorry

The 25-year-old man from Aarschot will probably not appeal the decision, which means he will have to stay in jail for a month longer. “We will probably acquiesce in the decision of the council chamber,” says his lawyer Jana Allard. “My client only took the scarf and did not physically touch the victim. He regrets what happened and he never wanted the consequences. He hopes the victim will be okay. He had asked bystanders to call emergency services, but he then made the wrong decision to leave the scene.’

In the meantime, the investigation into the facts continues, but for the time being, the public prosecutor’s office is not giving any further details.
