The President of Coni, Giovanni Malagò, during the FISI Day underway in Milan, spoke of the race towards i Beijing 2022 Winter Olympic Games: “There are less than 4 months until the fourth of February, the inaugural ceremony. Every day, the media keep talking about what is happening, what happened during the summer; every weekend comes some new success, a European or a World Cup that improves Tokyo’s path. This is a long wave that continues from the European football championships. When you are high and you fall, the noise is louder: instead in Tokyo there was a magical atmosphere, perhaps because there was no audience. We got together and whoever won the first medal went to cheer on basketball, the judo ones went to support the volleyball boys and so on: for each other ”.

Malagò, despite missing more than four years, is already projected to the handover for Milan-Cortina 2026: “We are proud of the 40 medals, but everyone keeps saying ‘This summer never ends, the Azzurri are starting to win’. But I say that we must begin to think that there is Beijing; it has never happened that, so shortly after, there were two such manifestations. Beijing is even more important than Tokyo in some ways. There will be a ceremony with which the flag will be handed over that will give the burden and the honor of hosting your own Olympic Games: it will be a great responsibility for us. I don’t want to put pressure on our boys, but we will have our eyes on us and we want to stay on top. The Italians are now used to it very well, so Beijing will be more important than ever, our Azzurri will be proud to defend the Tricolore ”.
