The women’s soccer team will play against Northern Macedonia

The Latvian women’s national football team will meet with Northern Macedonia today in the third game of the 2023 World Cup qualifying cycle. The match at the “Daugava” stadium will start at 6 pm, broadcasting it live on the channel “Sportacentrs.com TV”.

On October 26, there will be a match at home against one of the world’s leading national women’s football teams, England. Compared to the national team camp in September, the head coach Roman Kvačovs has made several changes in the ranks of the candidates – goalkeepers Asnāte Lindermane and Agnese Mandrika, as well as half-guards Alīna Šilova and Anastasija Čemirtāne. The guards also include Liāna Rožaščonoka and Jane Eglīte, who were also called to the national team in September, but did not join the team for various reasons.

Compared to September, Laura Siņutkina, Alīna Skļemenova, Sofija Garanča, Laura Sondore, Evelīna Freidenfelde, Signija Šenberga and Anna Marija Valaka are not on the list of candidates this time. In parallel with the games of the Latvian national team, the selection of the European Championship for young women of U19 age will also take place. Among the players included in the national team, Mandrika, Eglīte, Kristīne Evelīna Lodziņa and Selga Penelope Vitmore have not yet made their debut in the national team.

In September, the Latvian national team lost to Austria at home (1: 8) and Northern Ireland away (0: 4) in the first two games of the qualifying cycle. There are also two losses in the account of Northern Macedonia – 0: 8 away against England and 0: 6 away against Austria.

The England national team, which has been in the top four in the last three European and world championship finals, has destroyed Luxembourg with a 10: 0 away without success over Northern Macedonia. England, Austria and Northern Ireland have scored six points in two rounds, but Latvia, Luxembourg and Macedonia have no points.

The selection competition will last until September next year. The winner of each group will automatically qualify for the final tournament, while the runners-up will compete for two more tickets to Australia and New Zealand. This time, the European Confederation Zone has 11 seats in the final tournament, which for the first time in history will gather 32 strongest teams from all over the world.

The previous World Cup qualification took a different format. At that time, the Latvian national team won the second place in the qualifying round with Kazakhstan, Georgia and Estonia, winning one victory (4: 0 over Estonia) and two draws (2: 2 with Kazakhstan, 1: 1 with Georgia).
