Compared to the September games, Dāvis Cucurs, Eduards Daškevičs and Renārs Varslavāns have added to the ranks of the Latvian U21 men’s football team, informs the Latvian Football Federation (LFF).

The Latvian U21 national team will start preparing for two games in the qualifying tournament of the 2023 European Championship – against San Marino on its field and against Israel on the field. The game against San Marino will take place on October 7 at 2 pm at Skonto Stadium in Riga. The match against Israel will take place on October 12 at 7.30 pm.

Compared to the previous call for the September games against Poland and Germany, Cucurs, Dashkevich and Varslavan have added to the line-up, but this time they do not include Kirill Ilyin, Klav Kramen, Joshua Wales and Kristers Neilands.

The Latvian national team started the qualifying tournament in September with a loss in their field against the group’s favorites Germany (1: 3) and Poland (0: 2). The fifth opponent of Latvian footballers in the subgroup is Hungary.

This is the second U21 European Championship, in which 16 teams will qualify for the final tournament. The final tournament will take place in Georgia and Romania. 53 European national teams are participating in the qualification, competing for 14 vacancies in the final tournament. The winners of all nine groups will qualify, as well as the best second place winner. The other eight runners-up in the play-off stage will find out four more finalists.

So far, the Latvian U-21 national team has scored 98 goals in the history of European Championship qualifications and is close to reaching the limit of one hundred goals scored.
