The sports technification centers of the Government of Asturias host this course to 43 high-performance athletes

The sports technification centers (CTD) of the Government of Asturias host this course to 43 high-performance athletes from the disciplines of swimming, badminton and canoeing at the Trasona (Corvera), and El Cristo (Oviedo) facilities, as reported today the general director of Sports, Beatriz Álvarez Mesa, at the presentation of the new academic year, in which she was accompanied by the student’s tutor, Francisco Rionda.

The scholarship students, who come from eight communities (Asturias, Galicia, Cantabria, Navarra, Castilla y León, Baleares, Andalucía and Comunidad Valenciana), are considered high-performance athletes and are included in the modernization plans of their respective federations nationals. The aid they enjoy in the Principality is subject to sports and academic monitoring, so those in high school must pass the course to continue in the program.

At the event held in Trasona, the General Director of Sports announced the news for this course, among which the commitment of the Ministry of Culture, Language Policy and Tourism for equal opportunities, by integrating in Trasona, for the first time , the junior female sports technification program in canoeing, thus joining the successful junior male.

On the other hand, the Principality aspires to maintain the center of El Cristo as a national and international reference for badminton, for which it has requested the Higher Sports Council to qualify the technification program, with the aim of continuing to contribute players to the working groups and national teams under 15, 17, 19 and absolute. Through this requalification, which will allow the program that was already carried out in Asturias until 2018 to be launched in this course, the General Directorate of Sport gives a new impetus to athletes of recognized success in this modality.

Sports and academic successes

Álvarez has also valued the results obtained in the last year, both in sports and academics, and has committed to promoting the program Paideia of cultural extension, this year diminished as a consequence of the health crisis.

Last academic year, the canoeists achieved 36 medals in the Spanish championships (10 gold, 12 silver and 14 bronze), 4 silver medals in the European championships and 7 in the world championships (4 gold and 3 silver).

For their part, the swimmers won 19 medals in national championships and 5 of them participated in activities of the national team of the 2024 Olympic program.

In addition, the badminton players who join the technical program obtained last season 15 medals in the Spanish championships and 7 were summoned by the Spanish team for those of Europe and the world.
