The Balearic team, made up almost entirely of players from Ibiza, and led by Vicent Martínez from Ibiza, won the gold medal in the Spanish Championship for badminton school-age teams played in Huelva on Sunday. The Balearic teams traveled there in the infantile and cadet categories.

The island players made up almost entirely of Pitiusan representatives offered a great level against the teams of the other autonomous communities.

The competition began on Thursday in a first phase with four groups for each category (infant and cadet). The Balearic cadet team was pigeonholed in group B with the rival to beat in the competition, the Galician team. Finally, in this part of the competition they would give up the leadership of the group to the Galicians in a highly contested match.

On the contrary, the Balearic children’s team finished first in the group and had better options to reach the final of the competition.

In the second part of the state tournament, already with direct eliminatory matches, the cadet team lost by the minimum against the champion team. In addition, the Balearic Islands cannot count on one of the strongest players due to “political” decisions from the Spanish badminton federation, they denounced from the Balearic Islands. The selection was finally in the eighth position of the general.

On the other hand, the children’s team, step by step and with an attitude of full confidence, won their matches with authority, but match by match, demonstrating the good work of the Balearic quarry with a lot of pitiuso flavor.

Finally, this Sunday they hung the gold medal against the Galician team in a highly contested match. Thanks to the live broadcast of the match, the entire Balearic badminton community was able to enjoy the great insular quarry.
