The impact of social security change? ‘Mignolet contribution from 11,000 to 1.3 million euros’

The Belgian government reached an agreement on the social security contributions from Belgian football clubs. The teams from the Jupiler Pro League hold their breath, because players will suddenly become a lot more expensive. There is a financial problem, especially for high earners.

Bee The last news it is known that Simon Mignolet earns 3.4 million euros annually. Until now, the social security contribution for Mignolet was approximately 11,000 euros. That is now a lot more. The new amount is only about 1.3 million euros. It goes x120 in the case of the Club Brugge goalkeeper.

Minister of Social Affairs Frank Vandenbroucke is pleased that top earners can no longer benefit from around 30,000 euros per month. “I really had to fight hard to rectify this scandalous situation, that manifest milking of the RSZ by professional athletes,” it says in Het Laatste Nieuws.

Now that clubs can no longer benefit from a favorable social security scheme, this can have a major impact on Belgian football. After all, it will be a lot more expensive to bring players like Mignolet back to the Belgian fields and pay.

It is not only Mignolet who is a high earner in Belgium. Adrien Trebel earns 2.7 million euros annually at RSC Anderlecht. At KAA Gent, Vadis Odjidja is allowed to write 2 million euros into his account every year.
