The Municipal Transport Company of Madrid (EMT) will collaborate in the organization of the European Wheelchair Basketball Championship with the movement of basketball players during their stay in Madrid, according to an agreement signed between the managing director of the EMT, Alfonso Sánchez, and the president of the Spanish Federation of Sports for People with Physical Disabilities (FEDDF), José Alberto Álvarez.

Signing of the agreement between the managing director of the EMT, Alfonso Sánchez, and the president of the Spanish Federation of Sports for People with Physical Disabilities (FEDDF), José Alberto Álvarez

The agreement contemplates that the host city of this championship, which will be held in the capital between December 4 and 12, contributes and facilitates the travel that the members of the 18 basketball teams, both male and female, have to make between their hotels or accommodations and the sports venues where they will train and play their matches.

This EMT collaboration will begin with training on December 2 and will continue throughout the championship. On the other hand, the municipal company has also committed to promoting the volunteer actions that the FEDDF organizes and promotes.

The Madrid City Council and the EMT have always promoted the inclusion of people with different disabilities and universal accessibility as one of the pillars of the municipal company strategy. Since public transport is an essential element for structuring cities and a right of every citizen, Madrid intends with this agreement to be a benchmark setting for hosting adapted sport events and promoting its image as the World Capital of Sports 2022. /
