The Deux-Rives school in Saint-Georges now has a brand new schoolyard. Previously, the 800 elementary cycle 3 and 400 secondary 1 students had to make do with a baseball field, a football field, 7 basketball hoops, a dozen swings and a paved yard in the front parking lot.
The new yard offers new games, street furniture and shaded areas with mature tree plantation.
The project, representing a total investment of $ 197,000, was made possible thanks to a significant contribution from the Ministry of Education.
The City of Saint-Georges got involved to the tune of $ 28,500 while the Garaga company made a donation of $ 25,000. The Caisse Desjardins du Sud de la Chaudière added an amount of $ 10,000.
During the inauguration of the court on Tuesday, the director of the Deux-Rives school, Mario Bolduc, announced his wish to have a phase 2 of the project which would include a synthetic football field.
