Sauerland on Deer’s possible duel against Okolia: “It could be one of the big battles”

Sauerland thinks that the 36-year-old Latvian, who currently holds the title of world champion in weightlifting (up to 90.7 kilograms) of both the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and the magazine “The Ring”, wants to regain his former World Boxing Organization (WBO) ), which was taken away from him in a controversial situation in October 2019, when he refused to accept the revenge fight offered by Polish boxer Krzysztof Glovacki.

“The deer at the time felt as if the WBO had robbed the deer after the fight with Glovack,” says Zauerlands.

Glovackis, on the other hand, did not regain the WBO champion belt in March last year, when the 28-year-old Okolia lost the fight for the vacant title.

After a comfortable three-round victory over Montenegrin boxer Dylan Prašovich at the end of September at Tottenhem’s “Hotspur” stadium, Okoliy expressed interest in facing the Riga boxer.

The deer, whose only loss in 28 fights against Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usik, has won the title of champion in all versions except the World Boxing Association (WBA).

“It could be one of the big battles for merging the titles,” Zauerlands told the newspaper. “The deer has participated a lot in them before and wants to do it again.”

“It’s a fight that many people would like to see, and it’s also a fight that Deer wants and Ocole wants, so it depends only on British boxer promoter Eddie Hern and me,” says Sauerland.

Sauerland reminds that on October 16 in Riga Briedis has to defend his IBF champion belt against German Artur Mann on October 16, and then a fight with IBF obligatory title candidate Australian Jesse Opetay is expected, but he hopes to conclude an agreement on the fight with Okolia by then.

At the end of September last year, the deer won the Cuban Juniel Dortikos in the final of the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS) in Munich and won the Muhammad Ali trophy, the IBF champion belt in the first heavyweight and the belt of The Ring magazine.

36-year-old Briedis has won 27 victories in his professional boxer career, of which 19 have been killed. He suffered one loss – in the first semi-final of the WBSS season in Riga against Ukraine Oleksandr Usik.
