Saint-Étienne at its worst, Rennes unrolls, Bordeaux hanging on

The Greens more than ever in the red

The misfortunes of the Greens continued this Sunday afternoon in Alsace. After a good start to the match, they conceded the opening of the scoring on a corner taken from the head by Le Marchand (26th). Worse, they conceded a second goal in the 38th minute when, on a cross from Liénard, Youssouf beat Ajorque to deflect the ball into his cage. On the same action, Kolodziejczak violently hit Green on the head. The latter was forced to give way to Bajic, six minutes before Youssouf was sent off for a poorly controlled tackle on Ajorque.

Reduced to ten, the Stéphanois believed it, the time of the reduction of the score by Khazri, following a penalty obtained by Nordin (45th + 5). But they conceded three new goals after the break, Gameiro and Ajorque being notably rewarded for their efforts. Always looking for their first success of the season, the Greens remain more than ever glued to the last place.

Rennes has fun in Metz

Messin Vincent Pajot’s 200th match in Ligue 1 did not exceed the first period, since he was replaced at the break. Time to witness a merciless lesson in realism from Bruno Genesio’s men. Four shots and three goals – including Gaëtan Laborde’s seventh in L1 this season – and the match was already folded at half-time. The Rennais continued to have fun after the break, forcing Oukidja in particular to a double save (53rd). Above all, they confirmed their good momentum (three wins and a draw). It allows Rennes to return to nestle at a point on the podium. Quite the opposite of Metz which, for its part, continues to loose in the standings.

Bordeaux misses its birthday

The Girondins hoped to celebrate their 140th birthday with dignity by winning the Atlantic derby against Nantes. It missed. Hwang was however still the big man this afternoon. After touching the bar (18th), the South Korean international opened the scoring by sending a nice shot from the right into the top corner of Lafont (62nd).

But after winning his duel against Kolo Muani (42nd), Costil conceded the equalizer to Chirivella (75th). The Bordeaux goalkeeper was even very happy to see Corchia’s free kick find his left square (86th). Bordeaux will console themselves by saying that they have not lost at home to FC Nantes for eight matches (five wins and three draws).

Always in search of their first success of the season, the Brestois again appeared too timid in the first period to hope to win it. Surprised by a header from Faes at the start of the match, they nevertheless managed to equalize in the second half thanks to a superb volley from 25 meters from Franck Honorat (74th). Rajkovic, the Reims goalkeeper, then prevented Mounié from offering victory to the locals (78th). With now 14 games in a row without a win in Ligue 1 (six draws and eight defeats), Stade Brestois has equalized its worst streak in the top flight since March 2013-August 2019.
