This season, nine teams will take part in the Credit24 Championship – four teams from Estonia (Tartu “Bigbank”, “Parnu”, Tallinn “Selver” and “TalTech”) and Latvia (“Daugavpils University” / “Ezerzeme”, “RTU Border Guard” / ”Jūrmala”, Jēkabpils “Lūši” and “Biolars” / ”Jelgava” / MSĢ) and one Lithuanian unit – Klaipėda “Amber Volley”. Last season’s tournament was celebrated by Tallinn’s “Selver”, which beat Saaremaa in the final, and Jēkabpils “Lūši” won the third place.

Women’s tournament

“Riga Stradins University” / “Minus Volleyball School” (RSU / MVS) on Sunday won the “Optibet” Baltic League match with the participation of two Latvian teams, reports the Latvian Volleyball Federation. On Saturday in Jonava RSU / MVS with 2-3 (16:25, 25:15, 23:25, 25:17, 9:15) gave way to “Aušrine-KKSC” team, but on Sunday in Daugavpils with 3-2 (25:13, 23:25, 25:12, 23:25, 15: 4) the unit of “Daugavpils University” / “MiLATss” (DU / ”MiLATss”) was defeated.

In Jonava, Anija Juržža accumulated 21 points by performing four elusive services, Megija Dambrehte scored 19 points, Evelīna Rutkovska scored 11 points. Jekaterina Kovaļska was the most productive for the housewives with 19 points. In the DU / ”MiLATss” team, Chernavska scored 19 points, Iveta Alehina – 13 points. “There is a fairly new line-up with new builders, and there is a ‘catch-up’ right now. That’s why there are stupid mistakes, because the team doesn’t feel each other’s shoulders yet, ”says Inguna Minusa, the head coach of the RSU / MVS unit, about the unstable performance of the team.

With one victory, the volleyball players of the league vice-champion “Riga Volleyball School” / “University of Latvia” (RVS / LU) returned from Lithuania. First, in the semi-final of the previous season, the superiority of “Kaunas-VMU” was acknowledged on Saturday with 1-3 (22:25, 14:25, 26:24, 23:25), but on Sunday it was won 3-0 (27:25, 25: 22, 25:17) victory over Alytus “Prekyba-Parama”. In the first game, Vlada Pridatko scored 24 points for the Rigans, four of them with a serve, Kristīne Kramēna with 13 points and Adelīna Gerliņa with ten points. Anastasia Zestkova was the most productive for the housewives with 13 points.

“In the first game, we made a lot of mistakes ourselves. We lost the second set with 14:25 due to the same mistakes. In the fourth set, the judges also helped the housewives, ”says Andrejs Odinokovs, the head coach of the Riga unit, about the first game. “Today we discussed in the team who and why did not meet yesterday, and we clarified many things, although the victory in the first set was not easy.”

“We have a lot of young girls in this year, and we want to give them playing time, which leads to an increase in the number of mistakes. Firstly, they lack experience in the Baltic League games, and secondly, they have not played for almost two years, ”the coach talks about additional challenges.

Five Estonian, four Latvian and three Lithuanian teams will play in the Baltic League this season. Latvia is represented in this Baltic League season by “Riga Volleyball School” / “University of Latvia” (RVS / LU), “Riga Stradins University” / “Minus Volleyball School” (RSU / MVS), “Jelgava” and “Daugavpils University” / “MiLATss ”. Last season, Tallinn’s TalTech / Tradehouse volleyball players were crowned champions, beating RVS / LU 3-0 in the final. The Jelgava team won the Latvian championship.
