Parma baseball announces that it has reached an agreement for the next competitive season with the Venezuelan pitcher Josè Alexander Diaz Lezama.
Diaz, born in 1993, has a double Venezuelan and Croatian passport and will play in the Italian league with the status of Community athlete.
The new Parma Clima pitcher is well known by the Parmesan public: last year he played in the Serie A championship with the Oltretorrente uniform and won the seasonal strikeout ranking, scoring 161. For him a record of six wins and five losses with a pgl average of 1.85.
His experience on the mound began in 2012 in the organization of the Miami Marlins who assigned him to the Dominican Summer League until 2014. Over the next two years he played at Rookie League level with the GLC Marlins, “single A” with the Greensboro Grasshoppers and “advanced single A” with the Jupiter Hammerheads. From 2013 to 2016 he also played in the Venezuelan Winter League with the Leones of Caracas. The debut at European level took place in 2017 with the Romanians of Atletico Alexandria in the CEB Cup. In 2018 and 2019 he played in the Croatian league with the teams of Olimpia Karlovac and Vindija Varazdin.
In 2019 he made his debut in the Croatian national team at the European championships held in Germany and last September he led Croatia to the conquest of an unexpected seventh place in the continental tournament that was held in Piedmont. In the opening match he played eight rounds to the limit of perfection in the victory for 8 to 2 over the favorite Germany: in that race Diaz granted the Germans only three hits and six bases per ball without conceding points and scoring ten eliminations at the plate .
The new community pitcher of the European champions then played against the Azzurri in the quarter-finals, collecting three points and six valid in four rounds. His last appearance took place in the final for seventh and eighth place against Belgium when he saved the Croatian victory by successfully launching the last two rounds of the match.
