Paris Saint-Germain defeats national champion Lille at home | Football

PSG coach Mauricio Pochettino had made a base place for Georginio Wijnaldum for the first time in more than a month for the clash against the current national champion. The Orange midfielder was allowed to start against Lille because Italian Marco Verratti is absent for the time being due to a hip injury. The Dutchman last appeared at kick-off on September 22.

The Ligue 1 leader had to do without the ailing Kylian Mbappé. Lionel Messi did have a starting spot. The Argentinian formed the vanguard with Ángel Di María and Neymar. The injured defender Sven Botman was missing from Lille.

Lille shot out of the starting blocks and after two minutes Burk Yilmaz went to the keeper alone. The Turkish international shot the ball into the right corner, but PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma made a fantastic save. After half an hour it was hit for the visitors. On a pass from Yilmaz, Jonathan David shot the ball against the ropes. Just before half time, Di Maria had a huge opportunity to equalize the score, but to his own horror he saw the ball go wide.

Messi stayed behind in the dressing room after the tea break. The Argentinian was replaced by Mauro Icardi. PSG became more dangerous after the break and were close to the equalizer a number of times via Di Maria, Neymar and Icardi. In the end it was Marquinhos who took the equalizer. The defender shot hard and high.

In the remainder of the game, both teams went on the hunt for the equalizer and a few minutes before the end it was Di Maria who took the victory out of the fire.
