Own goal Reus! Dortmund goes under – Leipzig is unlucky

They wanted to play “dirty” and transfer their recent strong Bundesliga appearances to the international stage. But nothing came of it: Borussia Dortmund was swept away by the lightning-fast kickers Ajax Amsterdams with 4-0 – an own goal ushered in the completely deserved bankruptcy.

After ten minutes Marco Reus headed a sharp free kick from Dusan Tadic into his own net. An unfortunate move, but also a little the consequence of the strong pressure that the Ajax team inflamed from the start. A quarter of an hour later, Amsterdam cheered again. With the 3-0 win by Antony (57th), the game was decided, Haller (72nd) topped it off with his head. For the targeted group victory, BVB would have to win the second leg in two weeks.

But two mistakes spoiled the evening: Tyler Adams lost the ball, which Lionel Messi (67th) used to make it 2-2. And an unnecessary foul by Mo Simakan led to a penalty for Paris, which Messi (74th) slipped in Panenka-style to 3-2.
