No relegation after fraud by Belgian clubs? “It seems strong”

The investigation into fraud in the Belgian football world is gradually coming to an end and several clubs may soon have to fear penalties. There is even talk of relegation, although it doesn’t seem likely.

About twelve clubs have been discredited in recent days after the agreement between broker Dejan Veljkovic and the researchers. There are false contracts worth more than 31 million euros, which twelve clubs from the First Division have used. A possible penalty for this is relegation, although the chance that that will happen is small.

That’s what sports lawyer Sebastien Ledure tells Bruzz. “It is possible, because in Italy it has already happened with a big team like Juventus. But it seems to me that the soup will be eaten here just as hot, as it is now being served,” he indicates.

According to Ledure, the KBVB also took action much too late. “They already had access to the file months ago. The evidence is on the table and yet they fail to take action. Then you can start asking questions, because there seems to be no question of self-regulation.”
