The San Francisco 49ers put George Kittle on the injured list.

The tight end will miss at least three games with a calf injury.

Kittle played despite the injury suffered in Week 1 against the Detroit Lions.

He hasn’t trained this week and his case was in doubt for Sunday’s game against the Cardinals before he was finally placed on the roster.

It’s another big blow to the Niners’ offense, as rookie quarterback Trey Lance will be sent into the fray as a starter for the first time as Jimmy Garoppolo also has a calf injury.

Kittle was ranked second among his team with 19 catches and 227 yards in four games this season. Since being selected in the fifth round of the 2017 Draft, his 283 career receptions are the third highest total by a running back during that span.

This is the third year in a row that he has to be absent due to an injury. He had missed two games in 2019 (knee) and eight more last season (knee and foot).
