NFL: Evan McPherson gives Bengals victory over Jaguars

SUMMARY

CINCINNATI – Evan McPherson put in a 35-yard field goal in the last second and the Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars 24-21 on Thursday.

This spoiled the return to Ohio of Urban Meyer, the coach of the Jaguars (0-4).

Joe Burrow had 348 yards from the air including two touchdowns, helping the Bengals (3-1) clear a 14-0 lead at the half.

Picked first in 2020, Burrow had the upper hand against 2021 first pick Trevor Lawrence. The latter had 204 passing yards.

In the NCAA, Meyer won the national title in 2014, along with Ohio State. He was born in Toledo, raised in Ashtabula, near Cleveland, and went to college in Cincinnati. He has two sisters who still live nearby.

In the final quarter, James Robinson put the visitors ahead with his second touchdown of the game.

Burrow responded with a 31-yard touchdown pass to tight end CJ Uzomah.

Then the winning kick from McPherson completed a 73-yard run in 10 games.

For the Bengals, Tyler Boyd grabbed nine passes for 118 yards, and Uzomah had 95 yards on five catches.

The two clubs will play again on October 10.

The Jaguars will host Tennessee and the Bengals will host the Packers.
