NFL: Colts still have Niners number

SUMMARY

The Indianapolis Colts won 30-18 against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night.

The Niners haven’t had the upper hand since 2001.

The Colts (3-4) overcame rainy conditions and a nine-point delay early in the game to sign a third victory in their last four outings.

The 49ers (2-4) lost a fourth game in a row and haven’t won at home since October 18, 2010. Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo’s return to play hasn’t provided the desired spark.

Garoppolo had 181 aerial yards but made several turnovers. He lost a fumble and threw two interceptions, after missing a game with a calf injury.

Wentz and the Colts did just enough offensively and were aided by three obstruction penalties that pushed the team up 97 yards. Running back Jonathan Taylor had 107 rushing yards and a major.

Wentz threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Mo Alie-Cox in the first quarter and then orchestrated two short winning streaks following two fumbles from the 49ers.

He crossed the goal line on a one-yard run late in the first half and Taylor made it 20-12 late in the third quarter with a five-yard rush for a touchdown. .

Garoppolo helped the 49ers close the lead to 20-18 with a 14-yard touchdown pass to Deebo Samuel in the fourth quarter, but the two-point convert was missed.

The Colts then put the game out of reach with a field goal and saw Wentz join Michael Pittman Jr. in the end zone for a 28-yard touchdown.
