Neymar doubts about future: “World Cup in Qatar may be my last World Cup” | World Cup 2022

Brazil is well on its way to qualifying quickly for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Neymar and co have so far completed a clear round in the qualifications: 27 out of 27. Qatar would be his third World Cup for Neymar, after he also represented his country in 2014 in his own country and in 2018 in Russia.

“I think the tournament in Qatar will be my last World Cup,” Neymar said in a new documentary titled “Neymar and The Line of Kings”.

“I see it as my last World Cup, because I don’t know if I have the mental strength to deal with football anymore. So I will do everything I can to look good in Qatar, do everything I can to to win with my country, to realize my biggest dream since I was little. I hope I succeed.”

Neymar will be 34 when the next World Cup is organized in 2026. That edition will take place in Canada, Mexico and the United States. He won the Confederations Cup (2013) and Olympic gold in Rio (2016) with the Seleção, but he also had many dramatic eliminations.

In 2018, for example, there was the defeat in the quarterfinals against Belgium. In 2014, he scored four times at the World Cup in his own country, but injured his back in the quarterfinals against Colombia. Brazil lost to Germany 7-1 in the semi-final.

Neymar made his debut for the Brazilian national team against the US in August 2010. Meanwhile, he has 113 caps and 69 goals to his name. Only Pele managed to score more for Brazil (77). Only Cafu (142), Roberto Carlos (125) and Dani Alves (119) count more caps than Neymar for the time being.
