NEWCASTLE UNITED’S POTENTIAL TRANSFER TARGETS

As the Magpies still reel from the fact that they are the richest team in world football, ahead of Real Madrid, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain, a whole set of prospective high-profile players have already been linked with a move in the upcoming transfer windows. The Saudi-backed Public Investment Fund (PIF), along with PCP Capital Partners and RB Sports & Media that own the club, have given their green light for a huge budget to be spent on transfers in order to bolster the club’s ranks. Newcastle United could quite possibly target a finish in the top half of the table, as they currently sit in the bottom of league standings and stare at potential relegation to the second tier of English football.

Steve Bruce was sacked by Newcastle’s new management after spending two years in charge of the Magpies wherein he finished 13th in his first season, followed by his fateful dismissal now. Unsurprisingly so, due to his poor record of 41 losses in 97 matches, where he drew and won 28 of them – a poor win rate of 29%. Incidentally, it happened within days of the experienced manager’s 1,000 managerial game.

However, with the arrival of new transfers, including a new manager, fortunes may change at Newcastle as they are now backed by funds that can oust any competition in club football. Here we look at some of the club’s targets that could arrive come January or in the next summer transfer window –

  • AC Milan – Franck Kessie

Kessie’s contract at San Siro expires at the end of the current season and his wage demands have so far detracted Milan’s senior management from stall talks with his entourage for a renewal. Newcastle has a realistic chance of meeting his asking price and has the bonus of adding him as a free transfer.

  • Burnley – James Tarkowski

With great Premier League experience in his ranks, Tarkowski is one of the most interesting players to be linked with Newcastle. His situation is similar to that of Kessie but it is unlikely Burnley will let him go for free. A potential partnership between Jamaal Lascelles and Tarkowski could be the defensive future for the club.

  • Porto – Luis Diaz

Porto’s Luis Diaz has been a recent revelation and reports from Portugal have indicated that Newcastle is ready to splash out 80 million euros for the 24-year-old Colombian talent. They could move for him in January, potentially breaking the club’s transfer record of €44m in 2019 for Joelinton from TSG Hoffenheim.

  • Manchester United – Donny Van De Beek & Jesse Lingard

Both the Dutchman and the Englishman have become peripheral figures at Old Trafford. Van De Beek has failed to fulfil his potential after arriving from Ajax two summers ago, whereas Lingard was denied the opportunity to move back to West Ham United after his impressive loan stint last season. The duo has a real chance at redemption if they move to Newcastle.

  • Barcelona – Philippe Coutinho & Ousmane Dembele

Two of Barcelona’s highest ever transfers, Coutinho and Dembele have both become a shadow of their previous selves with less playing time mainly due to injuries under Ronald Koeman. Although both of them will not come cheap, their expiring contracts at Camp Nou might push the club to sell them for decent fees that will help them recuperate their recent financial breakdown.

  • Juventus – Aaron Ramsey

The Welshman was heavily touted to leave Turin, even before Cristiano Ronaldo left on deadline day, but no exit door materialized for the former Arsenal midfielder. Having already proved himself in Premier League, Ramsey would be a key figure in the centre of midfield despite his recent falling out with Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri.

  • Liverpool – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Things haven’t quite gone according to plan for Oxlade-Chamberlain in Merseyside since his more from Arsenal in 2017. His injuries have hampered his progress at Anfield and while that may prompt Newcastle to think twice, his abilities in midfield cannot be denied. The 28-year-old is ready to leave Liverpool and a move up north could prove to be fruitful.

According to betting odds provided by the best sports betting sites, Burnley’s James Tarkowski and Barcelona duo Ousmane Dembele and Philippe Coutinho are favourites as potential arrivals in the north of England. The Arab backed ownership arrives after Mike Ashley held reigns for 14 years, a forgetful and disappointing tenure where Newcastle struggled to maintain any momentum in the Premier League. Nonetheless, the moment has arrived for the Magpies to rise and quite potentially fight for a place in Europe next season
