Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Youth and Sports Club (GSK) Women’s Basketball Team achieved another success in the Turkish Basketball League, where it competed. Being the champion of the 2021-2022 Turkish Women’s Basketball League Federation Cup, the Metropolitan Women’s Basketball Team beat Karşıyaka Çarşı College with a score of 103-49, leaving behind the second match of the league.

There were exciting moments in the match that took place at Mersin University. The cheers increased the excitement of the match in the match when the audience filled the stands. Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Women’s Basketball Team completed the first quarter with a score of 23-12, and the second period of the match ended with a score of 50-20, and the third period with a score of 79-34. Completing the fourth quarter of the match with a score of 103-49, the Metropolitan Women’s Basketball Team sent off Karşıyaka Çarşı College Sports Club to İzmir with a defeat.

Mersin Metropolitan Municipality Women’s Basketball Team Head Coach İbrahim Sağdıç said the following after the match:
“It was the second game of our league. We started our first match by winning against Bodrum. It was the first game we played at home. The stands were pretty full today. This made us very happy. We missed playing with them too, that applause. I hope they will always be with us from now on. It was great to win. It was the first game of the league at home, we wanted to win. We got a comfortable win. Hopefully, we will continue to win our next matches by believing. Next is Fenerbahçe away.”

Team Captain Nihan Demirkol Tolgay emphasized that it was a good match, “We are happy to have finished with such a score at home. We saw what we were working on, we saw our shortcomings. After the Federation Cup, we continue with 2 series in 2. Hopefully, we want to continue to build on it. We already have an established defensive hardness. We want to go further with that. We always want to play games like this at home. Our goal is the championship. We want to become the champion directly without playing the Play-Off” he said.

İlknur Yıldızhan, one of the women’s basketball team players, stated that they play every game with a different concentration. “For us, the score is not really important. We want to win every match and go directly to the league, without playing the Play-Offs. We made a good team” said.
