Matthias Casse is hungry for judo before the Paris Grand Slam

After the Tokyo Olympics, Matthias Casse took a month’s leave of absence and then returned to training with enthusiasm. “After Tokyo, I was completely empty after five difficult years to qualify for these Games,” reacted a relaxed Matthias Casse during the press videoconference on Tuesday evening. “I enjoyed this month of vacation, but from the first training I started to enjoy the training sessions again. It probably has to do with the large and enthusiastic group that we now find ourselves on the mat with. This potential has been there for a long time, but it is only after the lifting of the Covid measures that it is possible to get the whole team on the tatami “.

Matthias Casse hopes to reach his first peak at the European Championships which will take place at the end of April in Sofia, the Bulgarian capital. “We have now started new techniques, which should allow us to become Olympic champion at the Paris Games. In the months leading up to the Euro, we don’t really need to do anything, but we want to work on the preparation and learn from the competitions that we will be playing.

Spring will be a difficult time for Matthias Casse. “In January, I will take my last four baccalaureate exams in chemistry, and then I will have to complete a number of internships to graduate. It will be particularly difficult to integrate judo camps, competitions and study camps into a manageable schedule. But after that, I will be able to fully concentrate on judo. After my judoka career, I can still continue my studies, on the assumption that I have no future in judo, ”concluded the bronze medalist in less than 81 kg at the Tokyo Olympics.
