The second championship of 2021 has not yet finished and some first division clubs are already thinking about a possible change of format for the League of the other year.
As revealed by the ESPN journalist, Julián Capera, the teams leading the project want the Colombian championship in 2022 to be one year long, with final home runs and, likewise, some want it to be played at the same times as Europe, that is, That the new format begins to take effect from June next year.
The proposal
As reported, the proposal consists of a tournament that is played throughout the year, playing only on weekends, since the weekdays would be for international competitions and for the BetPlay Cup.
“The initial proposal was like before, all against all and whoever scores the most points is the champion, but some teams want to have final home runs at the end of the year,” said the journalist.
And he added: “There is a proposal from a team to resume the eliminated league,” Capera said, although he assured that this option is difficult to be approved.
Likewise, the journalist announced that there are clubs that consider it necessary to match the FPC calendar with that of Europe, that is, that the first semester 2022 is played as it has been disputed, and that, as of June 2022, start of the new competition format. All this in order to equalize the transfer schedule.
Super League, women’s football and VAR
Although Capera assured that it is only a proposal that is going to be put on the table and that its approval and execution is not guaranteed, the project would also have changes in the Super League, the Women’s League and the use of the VAR.
The Super League would continue and would face the League champion with the Cup champion, as is done in Europe; the Women’s League would have two championships a year and the VAR tool would be mandatory in all matches.
