Former German tennis professional Tommy Haas understands the mixed public image of Olympic champion Alexander Zverev. “I don’t always want to defend everything, but when you are young and have success so early and everyone is somehow laying a red carpet for you, it’s damned difficult,” said the 43-year-old at the German press agency on Friday of the Masters tournament in Indian Wells. Haas is the tournament director there.
Zverev has not had it easy recently with his ex-girlfriend’s allegations of violence and quarrels with his management. “Even though all these things happen, he still does it phenomenally. You have the feeling that he feels most comfortable on the tennis court,” said Haas. He is “definitely a Sascha Zverev tennis fan”.

Zverev already had an outstanding career at the age of 24. “If he would stop now, you could say: What a career. And not everyone can say that,” said Haas. “The guy is just 24. That is really phenomenal.”
