Jabar is the General Champion, History is Engraved

KOMPAS.com – The West Java (West Java) contingent became the overall champion of the XX Papua National Sports Week (PON) 2021.

West Java as the leader of the XX Papua PON 2021 standings is increasingly unstoppable after buying additional medals in the 12th day series, Thursday (14/10/2021).

Launching the official page of PON Papua 2021, West Java has collected 347 medals with details of 130 gold, 103 silver and 114 bronze, as of Thursday (14/10/2021) at 19.00 WIB.

This achievement confirms West Java’s success in winning the overall title at the 20th national sporting event.

Previously, while still pocketing 125 gold, West Java was said to only need three more gold medals to become the overall champion of the 2021 Papua PON.

This was revealed by the Governor of West Java, Ridwan Kamil, in a post on his personal Instagram account, Thursday (14/10/2021) morning WIB.

“West Java needs 3 more gold to make #Jabar the general Champion at PON 20 in Papua,” wrote Ridwan Kamil.

Shortly after, Ridwan Kamil’s statement came true. West Java succeeded in adding gold medals to become the overall champion of the Papua PON 2021.

West Java’s achievement at the 2021 Papua PON then gave birth to a new history in the world of Indonesian sports.

West Java became the overall champion of PON for the second time in a row. Prior to this, they also managed to win the overall title when hosting the 2016 PON.

Based on the report of the Papua PON news center, InfoPublik.id, this is the first time a province has been able to win the overall championship position in a row since the New Order era and when the PON was held outside DKI Jakarta.

Under West Java as the overall champion of PON Papua 2021, there is an East Java (East Java) contingent.

East Java, which won the 2000 and 2008 PON, now ranks second in the Papua PON 2021 standings with 110 gold, 89 silver and 86 bronze.

Furthermore, DKI Jakarta, which has won PON 11 times, is in third place.

DKI Jakarta has recorded 294 medals, with details of 106 gold, 91 silver and 97 bronze.

Meanwhile, the host Papua is still stuck in fourth place with 89 gold, 63 silver and 100 bronze scores.

Then, completing the list of the top five medal standings for the PON Papua 2021, there is a Bali contingent that has bagged 28 gold, 24 silver and 52 bronze.

Bali succeeded in displacing Central Java (Central Java) which had long occupied the top five positions in the 2021 Papua PON medal standings.

Central Java is now ranked sixth with a collection of 26 gold, 46 silver and 63 bronze.
