He was a loser, although no one won on the pitch: The Düsseldorf Khaled Narey, who played in Hamburg a year ago, was racially insulted by HSV fans. Now the investigation is underway.

Dhe control committee of the German Football Association (DFB) reacted to the racist incidents during the second division game between Hamburger SV and Fortuna Düsseldorf (1: 1) and will “initiate investigations”. The association said this in a statement on Monday.

In the game in the Volksparkstadion, players from both teams were racially insulted on Saturday evening. The former HSV and current Fortuna professional Khaled Narey was particularly affected. There should also have been insults against Bakéry Jatta from HSV, as HSV viewers had confirmed.

The HSV had already condemned the racist failures on Sunday and announced investigations. The incidents are unacceptable and have “no place in the Volksparkstadion, but also in our society,” wrote the HSV via Twitter. The club emphasized that HSV stands for diversity and will do “everything we can” to “clarify and punish the incidents.”

The people of Düsseldorf also condemned the incidents “in the strongest possible way”. They therefore hope “that the HSV succeeds in clearing up the incidents as quickly as possible,” reported the “kicker”.

Narey as the main victim had thanked the majority of the supporters for the “warm welcome”, as the 27-year-old former HSV player wrote on Instagram. “All ‘fans’ who racially insulted me during the game and threw beer at me,” the newcomer from Düsseldorf, on the other hand, wished “a speedy recovery.”
