Indes announces remodeling of Ciudad Merliot and El Polvorín Sports Complex

The president of the National Institute of Sports (Indes), Yamil Bukele, provided details about the renovation works of the El Polvorín Sports Complex and the Ciudad Merliot Sports Complex as part of the nine scenarios that will be intervened for the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2022.

The El Polvorín Sports Complex will have a investment of 14 million dollars in a facility that will benefit the federations of badminton, cycling, skating and swimming. According to the president of Indes, this sports venue was built in 1960, but the last time it was intervened was towards the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador 2002.

“We are going to start with the El Polvorín Sports Complex, which was built in 1960 and previously had the name of the Student Sports Circle. He changed his name and was intervened for the 2002 Central American and Caribbean Games, “said the president of Indes.

Among the works to be improved are the Olympic pools such as diving and warm-up, badminton gym, velodrome and skating rinkIn the same way, the sports facility will be adapted for the use of people with disabilities. In the case of badminton, Bukele mentioned that a stadium will be built with a parking lot for 250 vehicles and swimming will have a stage with capacity for 1,800 people.

For its part, the Ciudad Merliot Sports Center will have a time of Approximate intervention of 12 months and an investment of 10 million dollars. In this sports facility it welcomes the federations of archery, tennis, swimming, squash and Hotel Polideportivo.

In the case of the swimming federation, the administrative offices, Olympic and heating pools, installation of access gates to the pool and change of the perimeter fence will be improved, likewise, archery will have a building on two levels with bleachers for the public on the upper level, toilets, cellar, dressing rooms and armory on the lower level.

For its part, the Sports Center Hotel will have a dining area lined with columns, elevator repair and automatic door installation at the main entrance. The Ciudad Merliot Sports Center intervened the gymnastics federation two years ago, due to a tropical storm.

The Indes has so far presented the design of the Jorge “Mágico” González Stadium, Pablo Arnoldo Guzmán Softball Stadium, Saturnino Bengoa Ball Park and the “José Adolfo Pineda” National Gymnasium.
