Guingamp. Nature activities during the holidays

During the holidays, the association Water and Rivers offers several activities for young and old around the theme of the bocage, at Belle-Isle-en-Terre (Côtes-d’Armor).

What is the bocage?

It is an agricultural landscape, therefore shaped by man, which includes fields and meadows delimited by hedges with or without embankments. These hedges are of crucial importance for the preservation of biodiversity.
“The bocage contains food reserves for the animals and constitutes a corridor which allows them to move from one environment to another”, explains Vincent Lefebvre, one of the directors of Eau et Rivières.

In addition, this landscape “Keeps water in the ground. It is important for the preservation of our water resource, which is precious in a period of global warming, when rivers and land dry up as soon as spring arrives. “ Another advantage of the bocage: “It captures CO2”, concludes Vincent Lefebvre.

But he is threatened. Since 1950, 70% of the hedges have disappeared and with them “35% of the birds in our countryside”. The idea, with the time of the bocage, is to make discover this landscape through playful activities.
