The event director, Gustavo Santoscoy, said he was proud that Mexico has been chosen as the venue for this tournament that was founded in 1973 and that throughout its history has only been held in 10 countries.

From November 10 to 17, the tournament will be held in singles and doubles, with the participation of eight of the best tennis players in the world, the first four confirmed are: Ashleigh Barty, Aryna Sabalenka, Barbora Krejcíková and Karolina Plísková.

The finals of the WTA will be disputed in the Akron Tennis Stadium, which had a redesign in its design and is authorized to have an audience in the stands.

“We have worked hand in hand with the health authorities, they allowed us 50 percent of the capacity and each session (night and day) will have up to 3,600 fans,” explained the director.

Gustavo explained that there was no local investment, “This event would be held in China and international sponsors, such as television rights and everything that it entails, are already paid for by the WTA, the city only does the logistics in terms of the event’s operational needs.”
