Without rhythm, without intensity, without spark and without inspiration, Acunsa GBC has clearly fallen this afternoon in Illunbe against Covirán Granada (50-76). The Nasrid team has been superior to that of Lolo Encinas from the first minute and has fulfilled the tasks that it had set itself upon arrival from San Sebastián.

It has been seen from the same initial jump that Pablo Pin’s team wanted to play at a low pace and that Gipuzkoa Basket could not run. In defense they have bet on completely clogging the outside line and that Steinarsson could not find Simons and Mallers in their triples.

On the other side of the court they have been decisive and have attacked the interior positions and the offensive rebound. And thank goodness that Granada has not been entirely successful, because the result that has reflected the marker of the bullring at halftime, 18-38, could have been more bulky.

Iriarte has punished with two triples the indecision of Delas when it comes to going for him outside the line of three and Covirán has already warned with a 2-10 start (min. 5). The Acunsa GBC has been able to respond, through Motos and a distant triple from Simons, but the outsiders have no longer lost control on the scoreboard.

The drama has come in the second quarter. Without forcefulness under the boards, both in their own and in that of the rival, Granada has passed over the premises, who have slapped them with a partial 0-19. From 13-17 with which the first quarter has ended at 13-36 in the absence of 2:42 from the break.

In that section they have missed eleven shots from the field and committed five turnovers until Proleta, eight minutes later, has managed to remove the cobwebs from the Nasrid basket. Gipuzkoa Basket added three more free throws until they went to the changing rooms, so the balance was a basket in ten minutes for a 5-21 run in the second quarter (18-38).

A reaction was urgent to believe in a miracle that seemed impossible, but there was no doubt that the team was going to try. With the obligation to offer something to the 1,047 spectators who have gathered in Illunbe, according to the official statistics, the speed has increased (normal due to the rush that there was) and has reached a partial 9-0 thanks to four points from Delas, two free throws from Steinarsson and a triple from Mallers (29-46).

However, as if the panorama shown by the score wasn’t enough, the worst news of the afternoon was yet to come. Aegir Steinarsson, determined to take his team away, ran with the ball almost to the bottom line to try to catch the Granada defense off guard. Failing to do so, he stopped, but in the movement of turning on his right foot, his knee got stuck without accompanying the turn. The Icelander has been lying on the track of Illunbe and apparently it has been an ugly gesture, but we will have to wait for what the medical tests that are going to practice say.

The spirits have cooled and seeing the injured starting point guard has affected his teammates, who have lost the joy with which they have come out to the second half. The reaction has not continued and the remaining sixteen minutes have not had any history.
