Frenchman Valéry Demory introduced as new Belgian Cats coach

Valery Demory will succeed Philip Mestdagh as the new coach of the Belgian Cats. The 58-year-old Frenchman (born in Denain, just across the French border) currently also works for the French basketball club Lattes Montpellier, the former club of Julie Allemand.

Demory played in the French Premier Division in the 1980s and 1990s and won awards with the Limoges CSP and Pau-Orthez, among others. He has also been international 121 times for the French national team. As a coach, he promoted Mourenx BC from D3 to the French Premier Division. In 2007, he joined Basket Lattes Montpellier, with which he was champion in 2014 and 2016. In 2017, he joined the club of ASVEL Feminine from Lyon, with which he won the championship for the third time in his career in 2019. Demory has also won the Coupe de France four times during his career and has been voted coach of the year twice. Since 2021, he joined Montpellier.
