About Barcelona

One of the most respected sports clubs in the world, Barcelona also has one of the leading basketball teams in Europe. Taking the King’s Cup to its museum five times in the 1940s, Barcelona experienced one of the most special periods in its history in the 1980s under the leadership of Nacho Solozabal, Chicho Sibilio and Juan Antonio “Epi” San Epifanio. Playing in the EuroLeague final in 1984, Barcelona won the Saporta Cup in 1985 and 1986, and the Korac Cup in 1987. The Catalan team took six Spanish League titles to its museum in the 1980s.

Adding Audie Norris to its squad and playing the Final Four three times in a row between 1989 and 1991, Barcelona lost once to Jugoplastika Split in the semi-finals and twice in the final. Playing the Final Four three more times in the 1990s, Barcelona could not reach the EuroLeague championship that they wanted so much in these seasons.

Catalans, who won the Korac Cup for the second time in 1999, played the Final Four in 2000, but could not avoid losing to Maccabi in the first match. Hosting the Final Four in 2003 and bringing together names such as Gregor Fucka, Sarunas Jasikevicius and Juan Carlos Navarro under the management of coach Svetislav Pesic and led by Dejan Bodiroga, Barcelona beat CSKA 76-71 in the semi-finals and Benetton in the final. He won his first EuroLeague title, beating Treviso 76-65. Returning to the Final Four in 2006 and winning the King’s Cup in 2007, the Catalans won another Spanish League championship under Xavi Pascual in the 2008-09 season, but were blocked by CSKA in the Final Four.

Our opponent, who had a historic season in 2009-10, won 20 of the 22 EuroLeague matches and reached the second EuroLeague championship with the team of names such as Navarro, Ricky Rubio, Erazem Lorbek and Pete Mickeal. Barcelona missed the chance of being in the Final Four, which it would host in 2011, with a 1-3 play-off streak that Zeljko Obradovic lost to Panathinaikos, who was coached at that time, by Olympiakos in 2012, and by Real Madrid in 2013 and 2014. The Final Four was stopped in their first game. Barcelona again won the Spanish League and Spanish Cup in 2011, the Spanish League in 2012, the Spanish Cup in 2013 and the Spanish League in 2014.

The Catalans missed their dream of playing the Final Four in the EuroLeague once again by being eliminated in the Playoffs by Lokomotiv Kuban in 2016 and Anadolu Efes in 2019 by 3-2.

Barcelona made it to the Final Four last season, but lost the opportunity to become the champion for the third time, losing to Anadolu Efes in the final. The Catalans, under the management of Sarunas Jasikevicius, finished the 2021-22 season with the championship in the Spanish League.

Having played a total of 15 Final Fours since 1988, Barcelona has won 2 EuroLeague, 2 Koraç Cup, 2 Saporta Cup championships, as well as 19 Spanish League, 26 Spanish King’s Cup and 6 Spanish Super Cup titles in its museum.
