FC Bayern are facing groundbreaking weeks. Defensive star Lucas Hernández has to answer to court in Madrid. Now, for the first time, his coach Julian Nagelsmann has commented on the case. And praises the world champion.
Es are special days for FC Bayern. In the next three weeks, the German record champions will play seven games in three competitions. Preparations for this are overshadowed by the Lucas Hernández case: the defensive star is facing imprisonment in Spain.
On Sunday (3:30 p.m., DAZN and in the WELT-Liveticker) the Munich team will play in the top game of the Bundesliga at Bayer Leverkusen, second in the table, and Wednesday (9:00 p.m., DAZN and in the WELT-Liveticker) in their third group match of the Champions League at Benfica Lisbon. Hernández is expected to appear in court in Madrid on Tuesday morning at 11 a.m.
On Friday at noon, Julian Nagelsmann spoke about the case for the first time. The Bayern coach plans despite the impending prison sentence with the French world champion. Nagelsmann said at a press conference on the club grounds on Säbener Strasse: “I saw him as normal. He trained very well and is quite normal in my planning for both games. ”The 25-year-old defensive professional should therefore appear in both games for FC Bayern. “If he’s healthy, he’ll play both games,” said Nagelsmann. And said to the court date: “If I hadn’t read it in the newspaper, I wouldn’t have asked him if there was anything.”
Hernández faces imprisonment in Spain for disregarding a court ruling. It is about a violation of a ban on approach and contact, which is based on a violent dispute with his girlfriend at the time and now his wife, years ago. As of now, Hernández has to face a six-month prison sentence.
President Hainer praises national players
Bayern look forward to the Bundesliga summit at Leverkusen, despite the unrest full of confidence. “I think it’s great. The person who directed the game plan couldn’t have done it better. It’s going to be a great game, ”said club president Herbert Hainer.
Munich lead the table ahead of the Werkself tied on points because of the better goal difference. “I’m very positive about our team,” said Hainer. “If I’ve seen the players in the national team, then I think we’ll win the game.”
