Ex-star Nuri Sahin ends his playing career – only a coach

He played for BVB, for Real Madrid – but it’s over now. Nuri Sahin has ended his career as a player. The reason: He now wants to get started as a coach.

The former Dortmund and Bremen Bundesliga professional Nuri Sahin (33) has ended his active football career. As the new coach of the Turkish first division club Antalyaspor told the Spanish sports newspaper “AS”, he will not appear as a player-coach for the club, but only as a coach on the sidelines.

“I won’t be a player anymore,” said the native Lüdenscheid. Club president Aziz Cetin recently said that Sahin could decide for himself whether he wanted to play for the club as well.

Sahin makes his coaching debut on Saturday in the away game at Sivasspor (3 p.m.). As a player he had with the BVB the championship title and the DFB-Pokal won, and in 2012 he was with Real Madrid Spanish master. In 2020 he left Werder Bremen, since then he has played for Antalyaspor.
