The German basketball champion Alba Berlin and cup winners Bayern Munich experienced a contrast program after their EuroLeague successes in everyday Bundesliga life. With a sure 79:50 (50:30) success at Frankfurt Skyliners, the last without a win, Munich built on their first premier class victory at Zalgiris Kaunas and advanced further in the table.
Berlin, on the other hand, suffered the third damper on their way to defending their title 48 hours after their EuroLeague success against Red Star Belgrade with a 59:65 (35:33) home defeat against BG Göttingen.
The table is still led by the former champions Brose Bamberg despite his first Bundesliga defeat of the season on Saturday with 84:90 (39:45) at the Löwen Braunschweig. The Franconians retained the top position ahead of the tied rival Academics Heidelberg (76:61 against s.Oliver Würzburg) due to defeats by Telekom Baskets Bonn and Niners Chemnitz. Bonn lost 86:91 (38:40) to the MHP Giant Ludwigsburg, and Chemnitz missed first place with a 78:81 (40:38) home defeat against ratiopharm Ulm.
Munich’s most successful throwers in their third win of the season were US stars Darrun Hilliard and Andreas Obst, each with 13 points. In total, four players in Bayern coach Andrea Trinchieri’s team, which climbed to third place, achieved a double-digit result. Host Frankfurt had no chance despite 18 points from Brancou Badio.
Berlin gambled away the home win against Göttingen in the final quarter. With a final sprint, the guests took the lead at the beginning of the last section and in the meantime even increased their lead to up to eight points in the decisive phase of the game.
