Eddie Casiano, dismissed as the Puerto Rico Basketball coach

San Juan, Oct 13 (EFE) .- The Executive Committee of the Puerto Rico Basketball Federation decided to dismiss Eddie Casiano as coach of the National Team on Wednesday.
The Puerto Rico Basketball Federation indicated through a statement that the measure is included in a reorganization for the beginning of the new Olympic cycle of the National Team.
The statement stresses that candidates for the position are being evaluated.
“The decision responds to a change in the direction of the national team. We are extremely grateful for the work and commitment that Eddie Casiano has shown in directing our National Team during the past six years,” expressed the federative president, Yum Ramos.
As manager, Casiano led the team to achieve gold medals at the 2016 Centrobasket tournament and at the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games.
In addition, he obtained a silver medal in the 2019 Pan American Games, qualification for the last World Cup and the pass to the second round of the tournament, a feat that had not been achieved since 2002.
For his part, the general manager of the National Team, Carlos Arroyo, added that “Eddie Casiano will always have my respect, not only for what he did as a player, but for his commitment to our institution for many years.”
“This change in our direction does not alter at all the affection we have for one of the greats in the history of our basketball,” Arroyo said.
The team’s next commitment will be on November 28 and 29 when they face Mexico in the first qualifying window for the FIBA ​​Basketball World Cup 2023.
