The turnaround was also very hard for national coach Roberto Martinez. Martinez saw how everything ran smoothly in the first half and completely collapsed in the second half. “We stopped playing in the second half,” said the national coach.

“We are very disappointed that we could not hold onto the lead,” the national coach started his interview after the game. “We didn’t have enough control in the second half. We let the French get back into the game.”

The national coach was clearly annoyed by the individual mistakes that the Red Devils made in conceding goals. “When you play against someone like France, they punish all mistakes. We brought France into the game at a time when that shouldn’t happen again.”

Hard work for nothing

Roberto Martinez seemed more disappointed than after the lost semi-final at the World Cup in 2018. “This is a competition in which we had to show our experience and all our hard work of the past five years. The disappointment is huge because the hard work and all the efforts the team has put in has thrown itself away.”
